The objective of this workshop is to provide an introduction to pre-vocational and vocational skills. This workshop will help the parent/caregiver to brainstorm areas of strength and areas of need for their youth with autism, in an effort to determine what vocational experience might be best for their child. It will review some tips for preparing the youth with autism for a vocational opportunity such as resume building, interviewing and social skills on the job.

Kerry Maisels is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst® (BCBA®) who has been working with children, youth and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disorders since 2004. She has a Master’s of Education with a specialization in Autism.
She is a member of the Ontario Association of Behavior Analysis, Inc (ONTABA), the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) and the Association of Professional Behavior Analysis (APBA). Kerry has had a wide variety of managerial and clinical experience working for both privately funded and ministry-funded programs. Some of her interests include assessment and treatment of behavioural feeding concerns, parent training, clinical supervision of comprehensive ABA programs, staff training and organizational behaviour management.
Kerry is a trained facilitator for Triple P (positive parenting), Facing Your Fears, Project ImPACT, Secret Agent Society, Children’s Friendship Training and the UCLA Program for the Education and Enrichment and Relational Skills (PEERS) and has received a certificate in Organizational Behaviour Management from Florida Institute of Technology.
Jennifer is a Board Certified Assistant Behaviour Analyst (BCaBA). She is currently completing her Master of Science in Educational studies (MSEd) with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis at Purdue University and brings 10+ years’ experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Intellectual Disabilities. Jennifer brings extensive experience implementing and creating individualized programming using a combination of Discrete Trial Teaching, Verbal Behaviour and Natural Environment Teaching. She is also a member of Ontario Association of Behaviour Analysis (ONTABA) and Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI).
Along with providing behaviour consulting services to school-aged children, Jennifer has also received advanced training in the Early Start Denver Model, and completed extensive training on the assessment and treatment of sleep problems. She is passionate about improving the overall quality of life of the individuals and families she works with.
Nicole Klobucar is a Board Certified Analyst® (BCBA®) who has been working with youth and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health disorders for over 5 years. She holds a Master’s of Education with a Specialization in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and is a member of the Ontario Association for Behavior Analysts. Nicole specializes in training frontline staff and parents and developing evidence-based treatments for reducing maladaptive or unsafe behaviours. Nicole also has experience targeting the development of daily living and vocation skills in adolescents with intellectual disabilities. Nicole recognizes the potential in others and is committed to disseminating ABA and empowering others to make socially significant changes in their lives.
Jim Haesen is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst® (BCBA®) based in the greater Toronto area. During his over 7 years in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis Jim has worked with many populations and in various roles. Since his first position as an instructor therapist working directly with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Jim has also provided consulting services in various environments including: personal homes, assisted-living homes, hospitals, schools, workplaces, and clinics, and has trained various mediators including: parents/caregivers, nurses, personal support workers, teachers/school staff. Jim has worked with populations of all ages and using the principles of applied behaviour analysis (ABA) has developed and overseen plans designed to decrease problem behaviour and teach completely new skills which have helped clients and caregivers to support the ones they care for in an ethical and effective way.
