Our workshops are ideal for caregivers of children and / or youth with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, who want to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder, including tools and strategies to manage behaviours and increase skills.  Our workshops include:

Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder and Applied Behaviour Analysis

This workshop will provide caregivers with introductory information about Autism Spectrum Disorder, Applied Behaviour Analysis and how services are provided within the Ontario Autism Program.

Integrating Visual Supports into the Child / Youth’s Environment

This workshop takes participants through an exploration of visuals that serve a number of functions, such as supporting the organization of the environment, giving information, reducing problem behaviour, promoting independence, promoting social skills in the school setting, motivating learning and improving transitions between environments.

Transitions

Participants learn strategies to support a child / youth’s transition in the following areas: entry into school, transitions between activities, between settings, between grade levels and into secondary school and adulthood.

Data Collection & Summary

Through examples and hands-on activities, participants will be taken through the steps of the data collection process. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of data collection as a tool to help change behaviour.

Toileting

Participants will walk away with the knowledge of steps of toilet training, teaching strategies for toileting, common problems that may arise and evidencebased strategies to implement during the toilet training journey.

Reinforcement: Increasing Positive Behaviours

Reinforcement is an important part of Applied Behaviour Analysis.  Participants will explore the various types, schedules and effects of positive reinforcement.

Sibshops

Sibshops provide 8 – 12 year old brothers and sisters of children with Autism an opportunity to meet other siblings in a relaxed, recreational setting.  Sibshops includes information and activities with high-energy games, new friends, and cooking and craft activities to get children talking, laughing and learning.
